The reason I want that re-written is for people that would just download and give up when it don't work on first try. If they would rewrite that bit of guidance I would give this 5 stars. You can see the text in the box change as you pass areas. After a couple tries I figured out the less than characters are actually pointing to the logo button to the left. The way the words are written I was under the impression you clicked in the dialog box and drug the pointer to the window you needed to copy. ![]() For some reason I did not relate to the less than characters as an arrow pointing to the icon to the left. Where the issue came in was the way they have the instructions written (no help file)in the program window. ![]() When I first tried to use it, it took me longer than expected (not long though). ![]() Also works with directory trees in Windows Explorer. Simply drag the icon over the text area you want to copy and the program will extract the text. I would have given it a 5 except for one little issue. copy text from Windows controls GetWindowText is a small, portable utility that enables you to copy the text from Windows controls, including error messages, Explorer windows and other Windows forms. I rated the interface very good so I could give this a 4 star rating. No more trying retype the information from the dialog box. Now if I am working on a computer and have an issue I need to google or research some other way I can run this tool and then copy the results to the clipboard, then to notepad or what ever. Then simply hold your mouse over the window from which the text should be read. By clicking the left mouse button on the button with GetWindowText icon and by holding down the left mouse button (drag), the read can be started. I downloaded this puppy so I could see if it was possible to extract the text from error and other notification dialog boxes that windows pops up sometimes. GetWindowText is a very small and portable program with which you can read the window text. ![]() It is simple in what it does but does it just fine. You might find the EnumWindows function more useful, as you can loop over the returned windows, and use GetClassName and GetWindowText to get some text you.
